Canine Good Citizen

The CGC is an advanced obedience class and AKC certification program open to pure and mixed breed dogs designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community.  It is a two-part program stressing responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs.  For more information please visit the AKC web site.

Requirements: This class is for puppies and dogs who have completed the PBH obedience class or who pass a free evaluation.  Dogs must be able to do the following in a group of other dogs and people:

    1. Sit

    2. Down

    3. Come

    4. Stay for 10 seconds

    5. Walk on loose leash for at least 15 feet

    6. Display no uncontrollable disruptive behavior such as: barking, whining or lunging at other dogs.

Description:   Emphasis is on the development of good manners in the home and community and includes:

Loose leash walking in distractions

bullet Accepting grooming by a stranger             
bullet Automatic sit when you stop during leash walking
bullet Accepting separation from owner
bullet Leave - it
bullet Come
bullet Passing another dog and person
bullet Walking through a crowd
bullet Polite greeting of a stranger
bullet Sit and down stays in distraction
bullet Calm reaction to auditory surprise
 

Schedule:  Class meets one hour a week for 6 weeks then includes the CGC test on the final, seventh week.  Please check the schedule for registration information.
