Puppy Primer

Puppies start to learn the moment you bring them home so it is important to start training right away.  This class will guide you through the early stages of puppy development and will help you develop the foundation for a rewarding relationship.

Requirements: This class is for puppies 9-14 weeks old at the start of class.  Older, puppies who are smaller  may be admitted to this class based on the assessment of the instructor.  Puppies must have completed their first set of shots to participate.  Rabies vaccination is not required.

Please note that there is some risk of disease when young puppies are exposed to the outside world before they are fully vaccinated.  However, several critical developmental and socialization periods end prior to the completion of a normal puppy vaccination schedule and there is a definite risk of inadequate socialization if you wait to take your puppy into the world.  Since more dogs die from behavior problems than from diseases in puppyhood, PBH offers this class to help owners take advantage of the training and socialization benefits derived from working with a puppy under 14 weeks old.  We recommend that you talk with your veterinarian about ways to reduce the risks for your puppy before taking this class.
